Broadband
over Power Line or BPL also known as Power-line
Communications or PLC is a technology through
which internet data can be transmitted over
utility power lines. To use this subscriber
installs a modem that plugs into an ordinary
wall outlet and pays a subscription fee
similar to those paid for other types of
Internet service.
The way
this works is it modulates high-frequency
radio waves with the digital signals from
the Internet. These radio waves are fed
into the utility grid at specific points
so that they go along the wires and pass
through the utility transformers to subscribers'
homes and businesses. |
